Dry Eye Treatment
Here at Richmond University Vision Care, we are proud to offer LipiFlow Dry Eye Treatment to our patients. This unique treatment is a pain-free, drug-free procedure that involves thermal pulsation (heating and massaging of the inner and outer eyelids) in the unclogging of the meibomian glands. By removing these blockages, your eyes can return to their natural functionality so that your dry eye symptoms are treated with natural tears rather than artificial ones. This treatment is not only extremely effective in treating dry eye, but it is a quick, non-surgical procedure that we can do in a single office visit.
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
Many symptoms of dry eye are a result of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, which causes blockages that hinder the production of oil, which helps prevent your eyes from drying out. These oils also help protect your eyes from environmental variables that can negatively impact the health of your eyes, not to mention your comfort. Without the protection of these oils, excessive reading and television use, dry climates, and heating and air conditioning can all have adverse effects on your eye health and can contribute to dry eye symptoms.
Is LipiFlow Safe?
At Richmond University Vision Care, we use only the safest, most effective therapy to treat our patients. LipiFlow has proven to be safe and effective and is designed only to apply pressure and heat to the eyelids, so your eye itself is never affected. The treatment takes about 15 minutes and has been approved by the FDA since 2011. After the treatment, mild redness and discomfort is minimal and resolves within a few hours. There is no downtime after the treatment.
Our highly trained staff would be happy to help answer any additional questions you may have about your treatment.
